El Paso Electric Request to Decrease Texas Customer Bills Approved by PUCT

July 31, 2009

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) has approved a request submitted by El Paso Electric in June to decrease its fuel factor charge, the amount customers pay for fuel used to generate electricity and to purchase power. The lower charge will be implemented beginning with the August bills.

“We are pleased that the PUCT approved our request to implement the lower fuel factor costs in August so that our customers can benefit from lower bills during the late summer months,” said David Stevens, El Paso Electric Chief Executive Officer.

With this decrease, typical residential customer using 500 kWh per month will see a $2.50 reduction on his bill. The request for a fuel factor decrease is the second request by El Paso Electric approved by the PUCT this year to reduce customer bills. EPE received approval to terminate a fuel surcharge effective in May. The termination of that fuel surcharge and the reduction in the fuel factor will save the typical residential customer using 500 kWh a month approximately $4.80 on his monthly bill.
